Unlined Woodburners/Stoves will all have a small landing between the flue and the appliance where soot can fall, sit, solidify, and build up, this CAN catch fire.
They require more time and effort, as I usually have to stick my hand/vacuum in the appliance to scoop the remaining soot into a bag, with regular camera checks to ensure it is all gone.
I will always reccomend lining your woodburner if you have the option, they burn more efficiently and are safer.
